Impact of the programme

Overall impact of Tribal Development Programme resulted in Stable Livelihoods, reduction in distress/ migration, improved quality of life, increased capacity and participation of women in development process, creation of entrepreneurship and vibrant people’s organizations. This programme has ensured women empowerment, food security, healthcare, education for children and prevented migration. It has addressed the twin problems of poverty induced migration and environmental degradation and has evolved as a replicable model for conservation of bio-diversity while enhancing rural prosperity.

The programme which is at present covering 5.40 lakh tribal families in 28 states/UTs has huge potential to upscale and geographically spread across the country. The experience indicates that this model of development has ameliorated the tribal lives by increasing the income generation, improving the quality of life, reduced migration, strengthening of grassroot institutions, and more importantly created an environment for further progress.

It is envisaged to take forward the programme, with interventions for forward integration of projects through post-harvest management, processing, market linkage, etc. This will enable investments opportunities for development agencies and financial institutions.
